University Outreach & Extension Water Quality Staff

The Agricultural Engineering
Department houses the University of Missouri Extension Water Quality program. The Water
Quality staff includes:
Bob Broz
Water Quality Program Director, is responsible for much of the financial administration
and review of the program. Bob serves as a liaison between the different agencies and sits
on several committees that keep him updated on current issues and environmental problems.
Several of Bob's responsibilities include representing the University on the Missouri
Water Quality Coordinating Committee, Water Quality Focus Team and the Environmental
Quality and Stewardship Base Team.
Dan Downing
Dan Downing, Water Quality Associate, is primarily responsible for developing
watershed alliances and water quality education/ information programs for those areas with
surface water reservoirs and/or listed as impaired
by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Dan works with Regional Specialists
to facilitate meetings among community leaders, public interest groups, agricultural
producers and company representatives. Currently, most of his efforts focus on Northern
Missouri communities, although his assistance is available to other parts of the state.
John Tharp
John
Tharp is the Water Quality/Community Development specialist at
University
of Missouri,
He has been at the University
of Missouri
for 23 years. Mr. Tharp received his B.S. in Forest
Management and a M.S. in Community Development from the
University
of Missouri
in 1987. He has taught courses in the following areas: Community Development,
Consensus Modeling, Conflict Resolution, Percolation Testing Certification, Community
Emergency Management and Locally-led Watershed Management.
Drew Holt
Environmental Quality
Specialist, is responsible for a 319 grant project targeting the Elk River
watershed in southwestern Missouri (McDonald, Barry and Newton Counties).
The project's goal is to empower citizens to make decisions, take responsibility and
participate in implementation of watershed plans that emphasize source control
measures and best management practices to reduce non-point source pollution
resulting from failing on-site sewage systems and inadequate livestock
manure management.
Wanda Eubank
Information/Education
Specialist and interim contact for the Missouri Watershed
Information Network (MoWIN) and the MOWIN website. Other
responsibilities include project oversight and program development
with regional staff for "Web-Based Tools for the Classroom".
Deepa Mani
Project Research Assistant and Webmaster for the MoWIN website. She is responsible for developing & designing
Interactive Web-based Learning Tools for five watersheds in Southwest & Northeast Missouri based on
information provided by local watershed groups & other research projects. She updates
the MoWIN website periodically as directed. Deepa also assists in developing the project
newsletter.
Sandy Zaring
Administrative Assistant manages the program's office.
