Spring River Basin - Watershed Groups and Projects
Soil Conservation Projects
A soil conservation project called SALT (Special Area Land Treatment) was recently completed
in the Elkhorn Branch Drainage of the Spring River Watershed. This program is funded by
the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and run by the local Soil and Water District.
It works with landowners to reduce erosion and to improve water quality by improving land
management practices. At the onset of the
project, 2,782 acres within the project area were defined as needing treatment. Similar
projects can be found at the following address: (http://www.dnr.mo.gov/wpscd/swcp/swcpsalt.htm)

Landfill Remediation-Missouri Department of Natural Resources
Several state and federal agencies collaborated in 2002 to begin a landfill remediation project on
the former Valley Sanitation Service, Inc. landfill near Lamar, MO.
This landfill, operated from 1975 to 1980, impacted
area water quality by allowing suspended sediment and leachate to enter area streams.
The goal of this project is to reduce the current
impact of the old landfill on the water quality of area streams. More information can be found at:

Watershed Groups
There are currently no private watershed groups active within the Spring River Watershed.
