Spring River Basin - Birds
There are many birds in the Spring River Basin. Some birds live along the river where they may eat fish or other aquatic animals. Other birds stop along the water when migrating south in the winter and when traveling back to their homes in the spring. Some birds located in the Spring River Basin are of conservation concern, and include: the Northern harrier (Circus cyaneus ), Cooper's hawk (Accipiter cooperii), Henslow's sparrow (Ammodramus henslowii), Pied-billed grebe (Podilymbus podiceps) , Greater prairie-chicken (Tympanuchus cupido), and Barn owl (Tyto alba). The northern harrier can cover about 100 miles a day while hunting.
