The watershed Mapping Section will be a hands-on exercise defining a watershed on a United States Geological Survey topographical map.  Several MAP skills will be incorporated into the exercise. Map symbols will be used to recognize the features on the map. For example: contour lines will be used to understand land morphology and elevation, interrupt slope or the drop in elevation for streams.  The rule of the Vs will be used to interrupt which direction a river flows.  Scale will be used to interrupt distance and size of land features with in the watershed.  Possible sources of point and nonpoint source will be located on the map. After the watershed is mapped, the approximate size of the watershed will be discussed.  All waterbodies within the watershed will be outlined.  The goals of this section is to aid in the understanding of how geomorphology defines a watershed, watersheds extend across jurisdictional lines and how land use within the watershed can impact water quality.
