James River Basin - Water Quality
hr1-g.gif (391 bytes)

A number of chemical water quality tests have been completed using USGS (United States Geological Survey) water quality gauges and through private groups. These tests measure pH, dissolved oxygen, nitrate, fecal coliform, and fecal strep.  These measurements have revealed normal pH levels throughout the basin. Fecal coliform levels have averaged above acceptable levels on the James River near Wilson Creek and Boaz and on Crane Creek, Spring Creek, and Hayes Spring since monitoring began. Water temperatures have been exceeded once on the James River, and nitrates were higher than acceptable in Crane Creek and Flat Creek.
