What is now the Missouri Department of Agriculture
(MDA) was
established in the mid-1800s to represent the diverse interests of the states vast
agricultural industry. The department has the dual responsibility of protecting the
states producers, processors, distributors, and consumers of agricultural
commodities, while marketing Missouri products at home and abroad.

Within the
Pesticide
Program in the Plant Industries Division is the
Water Quality Program.
This program is responsible for developing Pesticide Management Plans (PMP) that are
designed to manage the use of certain pesticides to protect water resources.
Financing for animal waste treatment systems is available
through two programs offered by the Missouri Agricultural and Small Business Development
Authority. The Animal Waste
Treatment System Loan Program offers low interest direct loans. The
Single-Purpose Animal Facilities
Loan Guarantee Program provides lenders with a partial loan guarantee on livestock
operations including waste treatment facilities.
